I've read a few opinion pieces recently asking if we should maybe lighten up on President Obama's lighting up during times of crisis.
Really? With all of the evidence linking smoking with chronic diseases, like lung disease and heart disease, as well as cancer--and with all of the attention paid to the health of a potential President during the campaign--I find this surprising. Instead, we need to encourage positive behaviours that prevent these chronic diseases from ocurring or worsening--and quitting smoking (or never starting in the first place) is essential.
Rather than enable the President's dangerous habit, let's support his efforts to quit. I mean, he does have a bit on his plate at the moment, and could probably use our encouragement.

Quit smoking resolution, which needs calm and focus and a cup of coffee and a cigarette hahaha :D
The facts are available and most smokers even if their ego will not permit, will at some time agree that the 'HABIT" of smoking will either kill them directly or cause irrevocable illness at sometime during their lives. Giving up is a life long ambition and those who do so are to be admired. Whereas those people who struggle with the demon daily must be given encouragement to continue with the battle.
I have been smoking, quit smoking, started again, well you probably recognise the behaviour and I am one of those many people who really do not want to smoke.
I know about the risks of smoking, cancer is something that I am seeing as a high posibillity to attract from my smoking.
I do wonder how much the President smokes, it makes it soud a little strange if this administration wants to change peoples behaviour in order to save in on health care and the president himself smokes.
I gave up years ago (willpower alone, if you are interested) so can see both sides of this story. Shouldn't we be providing facts and data to people and letting them weigh up the pros and cons of any behaviour, then make an informed decision themselves. After all activity holidays are also dangerous as is contiually being in stressful situations. Do we want the President to avoid those as well?
